Jesus Brutalized

Fearing Rome will view him as supporting a traitor seeking to overthrow the emperor, Pilate gives in and condemns Jesus to death. After the soldiers whip him, they give him a mock Imperial Triumph—draping him in a purple robe, crowning him with thorns, and hailing him as king. (Mark 15:16-20)
